A rigorous brushing, or what is technically known as a scientific brushing, can and does make a huge difference to the health of your hair. It does so many wonderful things for your hair and is a very overlooked tool for a healthy scalp and hair. First, brushing your hair before taking a shower, or before going to bed at night if you don’t have the time to give in the morning, will stimulate your scalp and hair follicles meaning that you have brought the blood flow, which brings all the nutrients, to the scalp. This is especially important if you are experiencing hair loss. With hair loss, the first instinct is to become gentle with the hair and not disturb it but that is, in fact, the opposite of what should be done. The next thing a good brushing will do is help to unclog the pores in the scalp and distribute the natural occurring oils in your hair, which are, of course, the absolute best oils for the hair. The immediate result (after shampooing) is shinier, bouncier hair from the very first time you try it. The long term effects of regular, rigorous brushing is stronger hair that grows faster and has more shine and body.

The best brushes for this use is the boar bristle mixed with nylon. You get the benefit of the boar bristle to distribute the oils with a little help from the nylon bristles in detangling the hair. If your hair is fine boar bristle alone should be enough to detangle your hair. So, how do we do this scientific brushing and is it difficult?

Actually, there is no wrong way to do it. Brush your hair in every direction being careful not to rip through the tangles. First, brush your hair normally to remove all the tangles, when that is done, brush everything back away from the face concentrating on the scalp as the brush’s main objective. Once that’s done, brush everything to the right or left one section at a time until the whole side is done, repeat to the other side and then again from back to front and back again. You are now done and ready to wash your hair. Your scalp should be tingling which means the blood is rushing to the scalp. If you have any scalp issues or just want to really be good to your hair, now would be a good time to massage some nourishing essential oils for the hair into your scalp.

Now it’s time to shampoo your hair with a high quality shampoo containing more essential oils. If you are a daily shampooer limit your brushings to every other shampoo day.

There are two times that the scientific brushing is not recommended. One, is if you have individual extensions in the hair, as this will cause breakage, you girls who wear wefts will have no problem with the brushing. And two, is the evening before or the day of a chemical service.

If you men think this is for women only and not for you, you are missing out on many things like hair loss prevention and thick, shiny, strong hair, which if you haven’t guessed yet, we women love.

Making a Mess Out of Your Cuticles When You Paint Your Nails?

Make clean-up a snap by applying a light layer of cuticle oil around your cuticles and on the sides of your nails before you polish. The polish is less likely to adhere to the skin, and you can easily wipe it off with a cotton swab soaked in a little polish remover, or an inexpensive polish remover pen found at beauty supply stores!

Baking Soda Pore Minimizer. After you washed your face, place 2 tsp of baking soda in the palm of your hand and add just enough water to form a thick paste into your face, resisting the urge to scrub for about 30 seconds. Rinse the paste away with cool water. You should notice that your pores are smaller almost immediately! How awesome is that!!!

Reduce frizz by drying your hair with a cotton t-shirt instead of a towel, then blow drying on the cool setting. Regular towels can cause a ton of friction which disrupt the cuticle and create frizz, so cotton t-shirts absorb water without causing friction. Make sure to squeeze your hair, not to rub it, while drying (which can, surprise, create more frizz-making friction). Blow drying on the cool setting to keep the cuticle closed, which won’t make as much of a frizzy mess as the hot setting.

Glistening, glowing, dewy, luminous—they’re all positive adjectives when it comes to skin, until they go just a little too far into oily territory. While oily skin comes with some major complexion benefits, the annoyances of keeping your makeup in place and ditching shine can definitely wear on a gal. To help guide us on the path towards perfect skin, here is some advise on oily skin fixes that will make your life easier.
1. Mattify
Most importantly, before applying foundation I start with a light, moisturizing mattifying lotion, which absorbs the excess oil your skin produces to help keep you matte. They work great under foundation and keep too much oil mixing with your foundation, which breaks it down. Make sure you choose a lotion that’s lightweight, absorbs into the skin instead of just sitting on top of the skin.
2. Reach for a Sponge
The Beauty Blender is great for oily skin because it blends and presses the product into the skin, but also dilutes the product with water, adding hydration and wiping any excess oil away. If I get oily during the day, and my makeup starts to disintegrate, I just use a damp beauty blender to smooth everything back together. It’s so refreshing and looks great. I find I rarely need to add more makeup afterwards.
3. Blot and Powder
To take away shine and to mask shine are two different things. I like to take away shine first and then mask it so that you use less product (and there is less oil to mix with it). Blot first with blotting papers to absorb excess oil. Then mask the shine with a blotting powder. Use a puff to press it onto the spots where you get the most oil, such as the T-zone. Oily cheekbones are fine. They glow beautifully.
4. Prep Perfectly
If your eyelids tend to get greasy and crease your eyeshadow, Linzee suggests you start with a dry eye primer or powder the lids before you apply eyeshadow. This will give you a dry canvas to work with, and also keep your color in place all day (or night).
5. Stay Hydrated
If you dehydrate your skin it produces more oil. Contrary to thought, make sure you stay hydrated and moisturized with a lightweight moisturizer so you produce less oil. And, remember, though oily skin may be more high maintenance, it doesn’t wrinkle, so be glad you’ve got it!
